News of the Day!

This morning, after I dropped Viva off at school and was on my way into work, my doctor's office called. The news is good: my amniocentesis results all came back normal. The nurse, Barbie*, paused for a second, and said, "Did you want to know the sex?"

"Yes, please, very much," I said.

And then she said...

(What's your bet?)

(What do you think it is?)

(Viva really wants a brother.)

(Everybody says it's a boy.)

"Congratulations, it's a girl!"

You could have knocked me over with a feather. I started laughing hysterically. "What a surprise!" I said. "I really wasn't expecting that! Oh, I'm so excited!"

And then I called Sweet Dub and his reaction was almost exactly the same: he burst out laughing and then said, "Oh, I'm so glad she's healthy. I love her already."

It would have been fun having one of each sex, but aw, I'm just so happy she's okay. And I love little girls. Haven't told Viva yet - I'll post her reaction later.

* Yes, that's her real name. She bears pretty much zero resemblance to the Mattel doll, aside from being female and having straight hair.

Thanks! We are all pretty excited over here, although I am a little disturbed by the idea of two heads of hair to comb, braid, put all up in barrettes and clips and Oh my God, what was I saying again?

Thank you! It is really going to be interesting to see the similarities/differences between our two girlies!

Yay! It's so exciting, either way! And it will be super fun having two girls, and I'm sure Viva will be an excellent big sister to her little sister. It's sweet that she wanted a brother (I'm always happy when kids don't have that battle-of-the-sexes thing going on), but she will love having a sister. I like Sweet Dub's reaction ("I love her already") - somehow the baby becomes even more real when you know that one little fact about her.

Congratulations!
